National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Admission Requirements

Students applying to the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine are admitted based on their qualifications, as the university does not have an entrance exam or test exemption pathway.

For students applying with A-Level qualifications, the minimum required grades are:

  • AAA in Chemistry, Biology, and one additional science subject (such as Physics or Mathematics), all taken in one set of exams.
  • Note: The standard offer is likely to be AAA, with the A in either Chemistry or Biology.

For students applying with an International Baccalaureate (IB), the minimum requirements are:

  • At least 38 points overall, including three higher-level subjects. Two of these subjects must be selected from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, along with three standard-level subjects.

For students applying with a French Baccalaureate:

  • A typical offer would require a score of 16 (mention très bien) out of 20.
  • Additionally, applicants must achieve a minimum of 15 in individual subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • It is recommended that in Première, all three science subjects listed above are taken.

Other accepted qualifications:

  • UCAT
  • MCAT
  • Advanced Placement (AP): Four or more APs in science subjects, with scores of 5, along with a high score in the SAT. The following AP subjects are required:
    • AP Biology
    • AP Chemistry
  • Strongly suggested:
    • AP Physics (A, B, or C)
  • Suggested:
    • AP Calculus
    • AP Statistics

Please note that this is a combined qualification criterion.

For students applying with a BSc cognate to medicine from an accredited institution:

  • A minimum overall grade of 65% is required or an equivalent grade under a different grading system. Final-year students must have predicted 65% or equivalent.
  • Cognate fields recognized as relevant to Medicine include, but are not limited to: Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences.
  • Note: Distance learning programs are not evaluated.

For students applying with a Pre-Med Program, the program must include successful completion of the following required courses:

  • One year of biology with lab
  • One year of general chemistry with lab
  • One year of organic chemistry with lab
  • One year of physics with lab

Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. The minimum required scores are:

  • IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 or above, with at least 5.5 in each component.
  • TOEFL: Minimum score of 80/120.
  • First Certificate in English (FCE): B2.

Interview

If you meet the academic requirements, the next step is an interview. The goal is to assess your motivations, character, academic achievements, and personal interests.

During the interview, you can expect questions such as:

  • Why medicine?
  • Why not nursing or another healthcare profession?
  • In your opinion, what are the qualities of a good doctor?
  • What is your greatest strength and weakness?
  • Why have you chosen the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens?

Additionally, be prepared to discuss any extracurricular activities or hobbies mentioned in your personal statement. This is an opportunity to stand out, as the committee is interested in your well-roundedness and passions beyond academics. The interview is conducted via video call, so ensure you are prepared for the virtual format.

Tuition Fees & Scholarships

Tuition fees for the English-language medical program at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens are set at €12,000 per year.

Unlike other universities, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens does not offer scholarships, so students should plan accordingly for the duration of their studies.
